Foldable Smart Phone Trend Game: Samsung Galaxy Fold vs. Huawei Mate X

Samsung Galaxy fold smartphone
was countered by the release of Huawei Mate X. Although both phones are
foldable, there are some fundamental differences between the two.
DESIGN:
The biggest observable difference
is the way the screen is used and folded. The Galaxy fold has an outer 4.3
inches screen and when you unfold the phone there is a second 7.3-inch screen
hiding inside the phone. The Huawei's folding phone has a different manufacturer therefore when you fold the phone the display
remains on the outside so the phone has a front display of 6.6 inches and a
rear display of 6.38 inches when it’s folded and a single 8-inch flexible display
when it’s unfolded. The latest fold iteration from Samsung is the Galaxy Z flip.
The interior fold in Samsung
serves as a shield from scratches while Huawei’s exterior fold provides a flat
screen and large displays on the front and back even when the phone is closed.
Galaxy fold’s screens are hidden safely while Huawei's screen is more exposed to
scratches and fingerprint smudges. If you coming from a new or a refurbished phone and this is the first time you're using a folding phone then, you're in for a treat.
However, when folded or unfolded, Huawei's folding device is a thinner and lighter product than the Galaxy fold which is twice as thick as the mate X when folded. When it comes to portability, Mate X has an edge over the Galaxy fold as its design makes it suitable for everyday use.
CAMERA:
The Mate X has a total of three cameras that can be used when the phone is folded or unfolded the camera setup is similar to mate 20 Pro means there’s a regular angle view camera with 40 megapixels, an ultra-wide 16 megapixels, and an 8 megapixels telephoto camera which is going to give you optical zoom. The Galaxy fold has the same triple camera setup but it also has a single front-facing camera when the device is closed and two cameras when the device is open. That means the Galaxy fold has a total of six cameras that spread everywhere. In terms of quality, Mate X doesn’t have any front-facing cameras because the rear-facing camera can be used for selfies by folding the device. Rear-facing cameras have better quality than the front-facing one so you are definitely getting tonnes of likes on your selfies if you opt for Mate X and the quality is on par with the iPhone XS. However, you won’t be able to video call with Mate X in tablet mode due to this. With Galaxy fold, you can make video calls on a large screen as well as the small one.
OTHER SPECS:
Both devices are using dual
battery solution, meaning one battery on each side of the phone. Mate X will
require more power usage because it has a larger display even when the device
is closed. With Galaxy fold, you’ll only need more charging in tablet mode and it actually looks like an android tablet. The
smaller display will take much less power. Mate X offers 55-watt supercharge
which means you can get 85% of the total charge in only thirty minutes. Galaxy fold
doesn’t have this advantage but offers wireless charging and power-sharing
which is not available in Mate X.
Furthermore, Galaxy fold has a
7nm processor which is probably the Snapdragon 855, 12 GB RAM, 4380 mAh of
Juice and 512 GB of flash 3.0 storage. Mate X offers a fingerprint scanner,
kirin 980 chipset, 8 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage, and 4500 mAh of juice.
PRICING:
Galaxy fold is reported to be
available in the market from the 26th of April at a price of $1980. Meanwhile, Mate
X is expected to be available in the market by the middle of 2019. Huawei has
not specified the exact date for its release. The Mate X price is €2300 which
is a bit expensive compared to the Galaxy fold.
FINAL VERDICT
