In March 2019, Apple released the second-generation of AirPods with better features and a Pro variant, in October 2019.
These models came in with the ‘Hey Siri’ Command Controls allowing the user to take advantage of voice controls when using them. So, that means you won’t need to tap on them to activate Siri; it gets activated as soon as you put them on.
Some new users may be confused about the regular and the Pro version. So, let’s discuss more about them in detail.
They made an entry with more features than the first-generation. They replaced the W1 chip with the H1 chip for better connectivity. Now, it will be much easier for you to connect and switch between devices while the music plays.
They allow you to double-tap on the stem to change or skip a song and immediately engages them to make and receive calls. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 for a better range.
It has the same design as the previous iteration and does not prove to be sweat or water-resistant. The command for control can be done by double-clicking the stem.
They do not have noise cancellation, Transparency mode, or Adaptive EQ. The lack of these features makes them a little left behind in this race.
They can also be connected with an Android device using the usual Bluetooth pairing method.
Now there are two options if you opt for this model- a standard case and a wireless charging case. You will need to pay a few extra bucks if you want wireless charging.
According to Apple, they have a universal fit and are perfect for everyone. But that’s not always the case, you cannot customize them and sometimes, they don’t fit very well.
They can also be connected to an Android device using the usual Bluetooth pairing method.
You can get almost 3 hours of constant use with 2.5 hours of conversation. Both the AirPods can be used at the same time, but if you want to be more aware of your environment, then you can use a single one if you so choose. Thanks to the AAC, audio quality is excellent whether you are listening to songs or making calls.
AirPods 2 are priced at AU$ 249 with a wireless charging case, and AU$ 215 with the standard charging case.
07 months after their release in March 2019, the Pro version was released. The design is slightly different than the regular ones. This model is IPX4 sweat and water-resistant. It comes with the noise cancellation technology that is adjusted 200 times per second with the help of the silicon buds
The pro version has more on-device controls than the previous models. These include, one-touch on the stem that can change/pause music or pick calls. To skip forward, you’d need to tap twice, and tap thrice to skip to the previous song. If you want to change between Active Noise cancellation and Transparency mode then you’d need to tap once and hold.
The sound quality is better in the Pro variant than the non-Pro variant. Adaptive EQ helps in tuning the low and mid-frequencies of the music according to the shape of the user’s ear. It also has an onboard dynamic range amplifier and speakers that optimizes the quality of the sound produced. The transparency mode allows you to filter some sounds from the surrounding environment so that there is a perfect balance
This model also runs on the H1 processor just like the AirPod 2. It helps them connect faster with any active device and allows the Pro version to also have the ‘Hey, Siri’ Command Controls so that users can actively use voice commands to play music or ask for directions.
They also have a wireless charging case that can be bought separately. This wireless charging case is Qi-compatible, which means you can charge them on a Qi charging pad. The wireless charging case can also be used with the previous models of AirPods.
They can provide 3.5 hours of talk time and 5 hours of listening time with the noise cancellation, and transparency mode switched off.
You can customize the fit in the Pro version with the help of silicone buds which come in various sizes. Once you wear them, you can also run the ‘Ear Tip Fit Test” to find out the perfect fit for your ear. The noise cancellation buds also have tiny vents that take off the pressure that you normally feel from noise-cancelling headphones. You can take them with you to the gym or any other sports activity as they are sweat and water-resistant.
These are very light and sit snug, and you won’t even realize that you are wearing anything. The wireless charging case is a little wider than the previous versions.
They are priced at AU$ 399, including the wireless charging case, and AU$ 249 without the wireless charging case.

Out of both the versions of AirPods, the Pro is the preferred choice. With so many features that surpass the regular version, the Pro version is worth the money. It is quite affordable if you purchase a standard case. But if you want the wireless charging, then the high price tag may be an issue.
Nevertheless, it is a perfect blend of technology and comfort that users will love and get used to soon.
