Frequently Asked Questions

Can you trade in a phone with a cracked screen?

Yes. A cracked screen reduces the offer rather than disqualifying the device. Select the accurate condition when you request your quote so the figure you're given already accounts for the damage.

How much does a cracked screen reduce trade-in value?

It varies by model and by how bad the damage is. The display is the most expensive component to replace on most handsets, so it's usually the largest single reduction. A hairline crack with full touch response is treated more favourably than a shattered panel with dead zones or display lines.

Should I repair my screen before trading it in?

Usually not. A third-party screen replacement typically costs more than it adds back to the offer. On iPhones there's an additional consideration: non-genuine parts are permanently recorded in the device's Parts and Service History, which can leave a repaired phone worth less than the same phone with its original cracked screen.

Can you trade in a water-damaged phone?

Liquid exposure is assessed conservatively, because corrosion can develop on the mainboard weeks or months after the event even when the device appears to be working. Declare it when you request your quote. The Liquid Contact Indicator is checked during assessment, so it will be identified regardless.

Will a bad battery stop me trading in my phone?

No. Battery degradation is expected on a used device and is one of the more forgiving faults. Devices below 80% maximum capacity, or showing a battery service message, are quoted with a replacement factored in.

What if my phone doesn't turn on?

It can still be traded in. A device that won't power on can't be diagnostically tested, so it's quoted cautiously, but it retains component value.

What happens if the offer changes after inspection?

We contact you before anything is finalised. Accept the revised offer and be paid, or decline it and have the device returned to you free of charge.

Does a cracked phone still need Find My turned off?

Yes, and this matters more than the damage does. A device with Activation Lock or Factory Reset Protection still enabled can't be set up by anyone else, which reduces the payout to nothing regardless of physical condition. If the screen is too damaged to navigate, remove the device from your account remotely through iCloud.com or your Google account.
